INSAF

  • Marital Status: Married with 3 children
  • Education: Primary School
  • Project: Owns a store next to her house where she sells home decor items and clothes

I launched my project in 2002. Thanks to the profit made by my small project I was recently able to help my husband finish the construction of part of our house. I also replaced some furniture inside the house: I bought a TV set, a couch for the living room, and a new bedroom set. Everyone at home was happy with these new additions. I can take better care of my children’s studies and buy them clothing. I have become a less frustrated woman.

I am currently participating in TAMSS’s sewing training so I can make the curtains and other items for home decoration myself. In the management training, I learned how to calculate costs, how to decide on the profit margin, how to better manage debt, and how to separate my family budget from my business finances.

ASMAA

  • Marital Status: Single
  • Age: 38
  • Level of Education: 5 years of secondary school, no diploma
  • Project: Selling clothing from men and women, perfume, make up, and jewellery that are imported from Turkey, Syria, and Libya out of her home

I launched my project in 1995. My business went through ups and downs but I was able to maintain the activity. My business capital was generated by the sales I used to make. The training in management that TAMSS provided for me and other women helped me better understand the Tunisian tax system and other administrative issues.

SAIDA

  • Marital Status: Divorced with one child
  • Age: 39
  • Education: Primary School
  • Project: Rents a retail space where she does sewing

I launched my project in 2009. I make curtains, bed covers, and fix old clothes for the women in the community. Since my divorce, I have been living with my mother. By being my own boss I can contribute to the household expenses and concentrate on my child’s education.  The management training allowed me to do my own market study and learn about buying and selling and how to interact with clients.
